“The past and future are for dreaming.
The present is for living [in the dreams].”
—quote adapted from Mapantsula (1988) film
Truth be told… they lied when they told us there was only 1 way to tell the story. They lied when they told us to choose 1 belief, 1 school of thought, 1 way to be. And then we wonder why we’re at constant crossroads with contradiction.
Human says they’re a complex being.
Other humans roll their eyes. Say “Okay, but which one of these boxes can we fit you in?”.
Human says why put me in a box? Why fix my place in your reality according to daily-expired labels?
Other humans say it helps them understand better. Connect better.
Human says this is not a method of understanding. Nor connection. This is a method of control. A method of deciding who I am for me.
Other humans roll their eyes past the edge of the earth.
Other humans see life they don’t yet understand. Other humans are already creating categories. Other humans don’t ask enough questions. Other humans make too many assumptions. Other humans make other humans feel inhumane. Feel inadequate. Feel like a box.
A four-cornered entrapment. A 3D shape with six flat surfaces.
A thing to hold space for things there’s not enough space for.
A thing to be filled with extra parts.
A thing to be pushed into more corners.
Truth be told, there are no corners.
This digital journey is a shape shifting castle —its rounded walls rolling through tall, doorless archways. All squares, all boxes, all binary-thinking exposed.
Truth be told,
One truth’s been told
Now we have new truths
waiting to be told. Surviving as stories. Surviving as poets.
Living, folding, rolling, writing, and holding (native) tongues captive.
Truth be told,
One truth’s been told
Now we have new truths
setting us free.
Welcome to this journey, 1 of many.
courageously yours,
nunyala
